Health is the main obstacle to work
A recent knowledge memorandum on health and social assistance from the Social Cultural Planning Office in The Netherlands shows that health is the most important obstacle to the flow from social assistance to work (Van Echtelt, 2024). Research by the Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate (2019) 5 shows that 52% of social safety programs recipients experience physical limitations in getting or staying at work. 36% experience mental health limitations. More than half (58%) cannot find work due to their disability.

"I followed the mindfulness training with help of the municipality of Rotterdam because I experienced a lot of stress very quickly. This also had a major impact on my physical health. During the training I learned to meditate and work on goals in a focused manner. It helped me feel good about myself. and to be able to feel what is going on in my body and mind. I really enjoyed the training!"
