Mindfulness can provide numerous benefits to job applicants, such as stress reduction, increased focus and concentration, improved physical fitness and improved work-related performance expected of job applicants.

Method

Mindfulness exercises and breathing techniques are used to reduce mental and physical obstacles. After this training, the job applicants can apply these exercises and techniques independently. The candidate gains insight into what influence his mindset and breathing have on the job search. This in turn ensures that job applicants have a positive view of looking for work.

Health is the main obstacle to work

A recent knowledge memorandum on health and social assistance from the Social Cultural Planning Office shows that health is the most important obstacle to the flow from social assistance to work (Van Echtelt, 2024). Research by the Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate (2019) 5 shows that 52% of social assistance recipients experience physical limitations in getting or staying at work. 36% experience mental health limitations. More than half (58%) cannot find work due to their disability.
